Connecting with God

God has done an amazing thing both by sharing His heart with us, and by giving us insight into who He is and how He operates in the pages of the Bible. Not only is the Bible the most historically well preserved and accurate book in all of world history, it has been miraculously preserved form so many attempts throughout history to destroy it.

The Bible is the most unique of all books, in that it allows you to reliably and accurately learn about God, learn of His ways, and meet with Him during you time spent in His word. He will speak to your heart as you learn about Him in the pages of Scripture. So, making it a priority to spend time with Him, by getting to know His Word is essential for spiritual growth and emotional healing.

As Survivor Support's founder, Jon K. Uhler says,
"There is simply no more important thing a person can do if they are serious about their healing and growth than to spend sufficient focused time in God's word. Though human counselors serve a role in the healing process, ultimately true inner healing and the process involved in that can only come through a deep connection to the God of Scripture. After all, it is He who is the Wonderful Counselor, the Great Physician, and the only one who can truly relate to the depths of a person's pain, and help the neurons connect memories, thoughts, and emotions.
Though I am always happy to counsel people, I try to help my clients understand that so much of the overall time a client spends in therapy could truly be shortened and made more productive if they made it a priority in their life and in their healing to meaningfully connect with God through His Word, asking Him for His help, insight, understanding, wisdom, strength, guidance, and His patience through the healing process. For, ultimately, only He is the One who can read our hearts and minds, and knows the places that need to be healed"
More than anything, the Survivor needs inner strength, peace, and rest. And, that is exactly what the Lord offers. Jesus extends His protective arms of compassion even as you read these words, saying, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is wast to bear, and the burden I give you is light (Matthew 11: 28-30).
He has laid out the method of knowing Him, of being brought into a relationship with Him, of receiving His forgiveness and strength, of being refreshed by Him, over being overwhelmed by the awesome reality that the God of the Universe wants to meet with you, and help with on the journey to healing.

The following will help you do just that...
